Charles Frederick Worth

Born in Bourne Lincolnshire 1825.
He was hired by Gagelin and Opigez, well-known Parisian drapers. While working in their shop, he married one of the firm's models, Marie Vernet.Worth made a few simple dresses for his wife and customers started to ask for copies of the dresses as well.Worth found a wealthy Swede, Otto Bobergh, who was willing to bankroll the venture and opened the dressmaking establishment of Worth and Bobergh in 1858.
What brought worth to Paris was people coming to england from Paris when he lived there asking for copies of the dresses he designed for his wife. He decided moving to Paris would be a better idea because more people travel there looking beautiful clothes rather than London. The tourist coming to Paris found his clothes beautiful and brought the designs back to the countries they were travelling from, making him known worldwide.

Paris, the capital of fashion.

My journey for my fashion map started in Paris, the fashion capital of the world known to everyone. I started off with the first model, Marie Vernet who modelled for her designer husband Charles Frederick Worth. People coming and witnessing this spread the art of modelling around the world, but it generated in paris because it is where design started and the Parisians have a very good eye for style. Tourist came in witnessing the style in paris and took it to england, ireland, america and countries in the middle east.

(That is a link to the Jabba Jabba Jembe website).
We played many different instruments but the main focus was the Jembe, which is NOT a bongo. He thought us many different techniques for the Jembe and we played a rhythm
called bungalo. In my opinion it was one of the best days we had in TY, i enjoyed it very much and learned alot from it :)

Music night! :)

For music night, class Amina and Emnet sang 'Mama Said' by Dionne Bromfield. We had dance moves to go with the actions, it was a very lively and up beat song but it was very difficult to learn.

Here are the lyrics for 'Mama Said'
[Chorus]
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said mama said)
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this my Mama said
(Mama said mama said)

I went walking the other day
Everything was going fine
I met a little boy named Billy Joe
And then I almost lost my mind

[Chorus]
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said mama said)
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this my Mama said

My eyes are wide open
But all that I can see is
chapel bells are callin for everyone but-a me
but I don’t worry cause

[Chorus]
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said mama said)
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this my Mama said

And then she said someone will look at me
like I’m looking at you one day
then I might find
I don’t want it any old way
so I don’t worry cause

[Chorus]
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said mama said)
Mama said there’ll be days like this
There’ll be days like this my Mama said

Mama said mama said
Hey! Don’t you worry
Mama said mama said
Hey! Don’t you worry now.
Mama said mama said
Hey! Hey!

Oh so dramatic

We were given permission slips informing us that we would be going to Glasnevin for a holy faith drama in honor of Margret Alyward. We left at 10.40 and we would return at 11 pm. So a very long day was ahead of us. We got a "vintage" style bus down to the school. All the holy faith schools were coming together to put on a big performance of plays for the nuns in the order. Everyone was very nervous but excited at the same time, we were allowed go around Glasnevin for snacks and later they ordered DOMINOS for us and gave us fizzy drinks:D it was sooo good! i was already hyper from the jellies, brownies and oreos and bottle of coke i had, so giving me more on top of that was not a good idea at all hahahahaha :D All in all it was a good day and everyone put on great performances! :)

Pancake-cakes yummmy

In home ec it was about a week after pancake tuesday, so our home ec teacher said we could make pancakes:D we had to prepare the batter and fry them in oil. everyone has big thin pancakes, mine and roisins were small very thick pancakes, but whatever they still tasted scrummy! :D we could bring in any toppings we wanted and the smell that wafted around the room was mouth watering!

Mini company competition in Red Cow hotel :)

We went to a mini company competition in the red cow because we didnt get into the final of the first competition. We had a stressful day from the beginning as our board was taken by another group so we got left with the worst board in the school. It took us atleast 20minutes to get the board together and we had to be very careful that we didnt knock it over. Half of our information was missing so we put everything we had into the stand. The judges at this competition were alot more helpful and gave us alot more positive feed back. We had to go around in 2's A,B,C and take turns to view groups, stand at the stand and go to the group conference. The group conference was very helpful as everyone was allowed to voice their own opinion. My mini company 'REAL' won second place for innovation out of the whole competition, we are very proud of that as we didn't think we would get anything. Our trophy is displayed in our school reception :)

Sometimes in april

In religion we are watching sometimes in April, which is a film based on the genocide in Rwanda between the Hutu and the Tutsi tribe that occurred in 1994. It follows the story of Augustin, ex Hutu general and his journey with his family through the disasters of the war. Augustin's brother Honoré worked for the tribalist radio Télévision Libre Des Mille Collines, he is now being held in prison for association in the killings in Rwanda. They believe he fermented his hatred for the Tutsi tribe through his radio broadcasts. Augustin's wife Jeanne and their three children Ann-Marie, Yvés Andres and Marcus were captured and he is unsure of what happened to them. 10 years later he is trying to get over the grievance and start a new life with his partner Martine, they are having a baby boy together. Augustin holds Honoré responsible for his wife and children disappearance. During 100 days of the Rwandan genocide over 800,000 Tutsi's and some Hutu's were massacred. The movie shows the shame and grief of life after the genocide for the people who have to live with what happened.
The movie is very powerful so the teachers thought it would be a good idea to watch the movie both classes together so if there was a scene someone found difficult, we could help each other through it and if someone got really upset there would be someone who would leave with them and talk about it. I thought the movie was a good idea to watch as it gave us more of an insight into life in Rwanda during the genocide.

Up coming work experience

Work experience coming up :D

This one i'm really looking forward to as it is something i am very interested in. I am going to a modelling agency called; First Option Modelling agency. I have to dress up and assist Trish Fallon who set up first option. Their Models Have worked with Tyra Banks and other celebrities. Im not exactly sure what i am going to be doing there but should be fun anyway, they seem very down to earth. Im sure i'll be busy busy busy. Getting into the fashion industry would be something i'd be interested in getting into so i consider this a great opportunity and i appriciate it very much. I know im going to have to get up very early so i'll be able to find it as im not exactly sure where it is, but i'll find it none the less :)

BRING ON MARCH! :D

You can visit their website on; www.1stoption.ie

Enjoy the work :)

Drama exercise

Drama exercise today was interesting. It kinda felt like pe but it was fun. I didnt really get how it related to english. I understand that we're moving on stage, but we wouldnt be moving like that on stage acting the maggot. It was fun moving in shapes trying to hold the position and then your partner moving around you. The only problem with the exercise is my legs and back really hurt from it because i was having too much fun, that i didnt sit down to break at all! We were all very giggly but he told us to do the exercise we must be silent, if im being honest this made me laugh more knowning i wasnt allowed to talk. All in all good workshop :D

Mullingar play! :D

Yeeeeeeow! we finally got to perform out plays on the big stage! it was so scary, everyone was so nervous that we were going to have to perform in front of other schools. Luckily we were the only school there so we could move swiftly with our performances. My play was up first and we were called 'Noughts & Crosses'. Its about a white boy (A Nought) and a black girl (A Cross) who were best friends since they were little in a world where white people are 'nothing' and black people run everything. Callum and Sephy are in love and there is a tragic end to this love story. Callum is accused of raping Sephy and is hung while she is pregnant with his unborn child. It is based on the novel Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. This was a fun play to perform, but after practising it like 8 times the day before i was really starting to get sick of it. The other plays were amazing! they all made me cry except my own. One play called 'D.U.I' by girls in Emnet made me ball my eyes out! it was so silent in the theatre and all you could hear was me sobbing in the background, oh scarlet for me! then they played the song Stan by eminem, which is one of the saddest songs I've heard in my life believe it or not. Another play from emnet 'Time of your life' made me cry as well. It was very dramatic and there was humour too but they captured the aggressiveness and the horrific relationship the girl Sophia was in. There was other schools from Donegal there and their plays were a good bit longer than ours, they were very good although the story lines were simple, they were effective and interesting. We got chatting to girls from Donegal in Ty asking them what its like to go to school there and just about themselves in general. Before we saw the other schools we got to go to MCDONALDS! and i really felt like being fat hahahahaaha. i got a McChicken Sandwich, Medium Fries, Medium Coke and a Cookie. It was so yummy! i ate every single piece of the meal and i was still kinda hungry!
It was such a good day!
THE FINALS - WE'LL GET THROUGH YEEOW!

Young scientist :)

Young scientist, whata day that was!
We spent the whole day learning about other schools projects and getting to make friends in the different schools. There were very intertesting experiments to do with fibre optics. it was very confusing but they didnt mind explaining it to us in detail. Our year had only one project gone through to the YS, Kate, Aoife and Steph went through with a very complicated name which im not going to try and explain because i'll just get it wrong. It was an unreal project! it was so complicated and smart but it still made sense when explained. it was about antioxidents and which made us live longer. Green tea makes you live longer if i remember correctly. There we food stands outside aswell, Eddie rockets, Hotdogs, Smoothies and Chocolate fondue. all so yummy but so expensive! We went to see a robot show, but to be honest it was more aimed at the young ones, we all felt just a little bit too old for that. Got a free tshirt from intel. Everyone attacked the poor man for a tshirt, i felt really bad for him. You would swear theyve never seen a Tshirt before! THANKS FOR THE TSHIRT INTEL! It was also our friends birthday on the day so we celebrated his birthday :) i got lost a few times, but i was always found. Got chatting to a girl from cavan, she was lovely :)
so all in all, not a bad day :)
